James is listed in the 1851 census as a grandson of John How. Potentially a son of either Elizabeth (age 25 when born) How or Isabella (age 15 when born) How as the only two girls of the family. There was a Tarr working on the adjoiuning farm in the census who could have been the father. Unfortunately there were at least three James Tarr born in 1845/6 in the area so difficult to determine which birth certificate may be most useful - the index does not include any parent details
